Crime novelist P.D. James dies at 94

(CNN) -- British crime novelist P.D. James, whose lengthy writing career was noted in part for her murder mysteries involving fictional London detective Adam Dalgliesh, died Thursday at her home in Oxford, England, her publisher Faber and Faber said.

Phyllis Dorothy James, who became Baroness James of Holland Park in 1991, was 94.

"It is difficult to express our profound sadness at losing P D James, one of the world's great writers and a Faber author since her first publication in 1962," a statement from the publisher reads. "She was so very remarkable in every aspect of her life, an inspiration and great friend to us all."
