Three killed around protests in Cairo

(CNN) -- At least three people were killed at or near protests by Islamist demonstrators in Cairo, Egypt's state-run media outlet Ahram Online reported.

The deaths include two Egyptian army officers who were killed in separate drive-by shootings, the outlet reported.

A third person died from gunshot wounds sustained near the site of clashes between protesters and police in the east Cairo district of Matariya, a spokesman for the Health Ministry told Ahram Online. It wasn't clear whether the slain person had been taking part in protests.

Also Friday, a bomb exploded in Abdel-Moneim Riyad Square in downtown Cairo, near Tahrir Square, witnesses told Ahram Online. No damage or casualties from the explosion were reported.

Meanwhile, 107 alleged members of the Muslim Brotherhood were arrested Friday by Egyptian police on suspicion of intending to carry out acts of violence, according to state news agency, MENA.
